Friends don't do such things to one another. If you know a guy can't cook, and that he gets nervous about big occasions, a friend wouldn't invite celebrity guests to his house for a dinner party.

The last time popular local restaurateur and blogger Matt Baumgartner and I collaborated on a video, in which I helped him shop for and learn to use good kitchen knives, a couple of things became clear: Viewers liked the pairing (the video was about 10 times more popular, as measured by number of views, than average videos on timesunion.com) and Matt wasn't much of a cook.
Knowing Matt is kitchen-challenged and works himself into a state of anxiety about major events, my idea for our next video -- have the two of us make dinner for somebody important -- seemed inspired, foolish and sure to generate comedy. To further ratchet up the tension, I refused to tell Matt the identity of our guests or what we'd cook.
