Barry Bonds hit his 728th homer, Ray Durham and Moises Alou had back-to-back shots in the sixth, and Matt Cain pitched 72/3 innings Saturday to lead the San Francisco Giants over the Cubs, 4-2, in Chicago.

Bonds' fourth homer in the last 10 games and 20th of the season leaves him just 27 away from tying career leader Hank Aaron (755).

PHILLIES, BRAVES SPLIT (at Philadelphia) — Mike Lieberthal homered and drove in four runs, helping Philadelphia split a doubleheader with Atlanta with a 16-4 win in the second game.

In the opener, Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer off Arthur Rhodes in the ninth inning to lead Atlanta to 4-3 victory.

NATIONALS SWEEP DIAMONDBACKS (at Washington) — Austin Kearns and Ryan Zimmerman homered to lead Washington over Livan Hernandez and Arizona, completing a sweep.

The Nationals rallied in both games of the doubleheader, winning 7-6 in 11 innings in the first game and 4-3 in the second game.

Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer and Zimmerman's bases-loaded walk in the 11th inning lifted Washington.

Hernandez, who was traded from the Nationals to Arizona on Aug. 7, got the start in the second game and took a 3-1 lead into the eighth. But Zimmerman homered, Nick Johnson singled and Kearns hit a two-run drive to put the Nationals in front.

PIRATES 1, CARDINALS 0 (at St. Louis) — Shawn Chacon and two relievers combined on an eight-hitter and Ronny Paulino hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the seventh to lift Pittsburgh.

MARLINS 9, BREWERS 6, 10 innings (at Milwaukee) — Alfredo Amezaga singled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning for Florida.
