NSW: Buses replace trains between Canberra, Sydney

Staff shortages and excessive overtime has forced the temporary cancellation of CountryLinkExplorer services between Sydney and Canberra.

StateRail acting chief executive VINCE GRAHAM says buses will replace trains betweenthe two capital cities from today.

Mr GRAHAM says continuing to operate CountryLink services with staff shortages, seasonalsickness and potential fatigue will only result in uncontrolled service cancellations.

He says CountryLink's undergone a recruitment process to bolster staff numbers foron-board services and should have several new staff trained by August the 31st.

Passengers who don't want to travel by coach can re-book for a later date or obtain a refund.

The temporary switch to buses will be reviewed in late August.
