Enables Quicker Transmission of Wireless Messaging
Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL), one of the nation's largest wireless data and messaging companies, today announced that its Systems Applications Division has installed a new state-of-the-art Integrated Resource Management (IRM) system to facilitate wireless communications for BMW Manufacturing Corp., a subsidiary of BMW AG of North America, Inc.
The state-of-the-art IRM product utilizes its own in-house VHF wireless messaging system to link hundreds of employees at the BMW-MC manufacturing facility in South Carolina. Two transmitters dedicated to the IRM system have been installed at the facility, resulting in virtually instantaneous message delivery. BMW-MC's Emergency Response Team (ERT) is the primary beneficiary of the new service. It's members are fitted with wireless advanced messaging devices that can be contacted as a group, or individually, using a central, computer-based system or using traditional paging methods.
"Manufacturing and other important industrial operations recognize remarkable efficiencies when connected via a premise-based IRM wireless data management system," stated William L. Collins III, Metrocall's chairman, president and CEO. "BMW's manufacturing facility is a perfect example of how management can stay in close contact and track the activities of multiple remote and important areas of their operations. We are proud that a company with such an impressive track record for manufacturing excellence has chosen our IRM product for their critical communications demands."
In addition to the exceptional response time, the system documents every messaging event and produces custom reports, such as cost center and inventory correspondence. The in-house IRM also allows administrators to exchange devices on demand. This provides for the inclusion of new technologies or the replacement of damaged equipment without delay.
